My son has been attending pre-primary ballet classes on a Saturday with Mrs Patching since October 2020. He is loving his ballet classes and looks forward to every Saturday. He works really hard and the calm nature of the class, music & Mrs Patching's teaching really focuses his mind and helps him to concentrate. Despite the difficulties of lockdown, the school have run the classes via zoom and I don't feel there is any difference in how the classes are taught on zoom to how they would be in the studio. Mrs Patching still gives corrections, and praise, to the girls & boys. He cannot wait for classes to be able to return to the studio. I'm so glad that we made the decision to start him at Adagio and will probably look to enrol him into some other classes later in the year. Frequently asked questions
What are BTEC Qualifications?
BTECs are work-related qualifications suitable for a wide range of students, built to accommodate the needs of employers and allow progression to university. They are recognised by schools, colleges, universities, employers and professional bodies across the United Kingdom and in over 100 countries worldwide. They provide a practical, real-world approach to learning without sacrificing any of the essential subject theory. During the ACPA BTEC course you will have the opportunity to attend workshops lead by local dance artists, industry professionals and theatre companies as well as watching professional shows. This will give you a realistic experience of what it might be like to work in the Performing Arts industry.
Where will the course take me?
The Pearson Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: Dance qualification is recognised by colleges and universities and therefore allows progression via many pathways. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for appropriate direct employment in the vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they clearly wish to enter a specialist area of work. It is the equivalent to three A Levels. Some learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to Performing Arts colleges, higher education foundation degree, HND or other professional development programmes.
Do I need previous dance or performing arts experience to apply?
We welcome students from a variety of backgrounds. Some arrive with years of dance training, while others may have only performed in school productions or taken a few classes. What matters most is your passion for performing and your commitment to training full time. Our audition process is designed to look at your potential and willingness to learn, rather than expecting perfection. If you show determination, musicality, and enthusiasm, we will provide the training you need to develop your skills and confidence.
What styles of dance will I learn?
The course is designed to give you strong technical training across a variety of dance styles. You will take regular classes in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, and Commercial dance, as well as opportunities to study choreography, improvisation, and performance techniques. Alongside dance, you’ll also explore acting and singing, developing into a versatile performer who is comfortable across multiple disciplines. This well-rounded training mirrors the demands of today’s performing arts industry, where employers are increasingly seeking adaptable artists with a wide skill set.
